Vishnupad Temple is centred on a rock bearing what devotees believe to be Lord Vishnu's footprint. The current structure was built in the 18th century, though the site's religious significance for ancestral rites (Pind Daan) is described in much older texts, making Gaya an important pilgrimage center for this purpose.
