The Meenakshi Amman Temple has origins dating back over a thousand years, with much of the present structure built during the Nayak dynasty in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its twelve gopurams, covered in thousands of colourful sculptures, make it one of the finest examples of Dravidian temple architecture.
