2. History of Yamunotri Temple

Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and is considered her source shrine, situated close to the Yamunotri Glacier. Pilgrims undertake a trek through mountainous terrain to reach the temple, which also features nearby hot springs used for ritual cooking of rice as an offering.

Open seasonally, typically late April/May to November, with darshan through daylight hours.

Accessible via a trek of about 5-6 km from Janki Chatti, which is connected by road to Rishikesh and Uttarkashi.
